Future subsonic X-Planes will reduce fuel burn, emissions, and noise, and create U.S. jobs
IRVINE, CA, June 28, 2017 – The future of commercial aviation is now one step closer to becoming reality. DZYNE Technologies Incorporated (DZYNE) recently presented a comprehensive program plan and system requirement specification to NASA for an ultra-efficient subsonic transport (UEST) manned experimental flight (X-Plane) demonstrator. DZYNE’s concept is a Blended Wing Body (BWB) that is more efficient and green compared to today’s airline fleet.“We are very pleased to have provided NASA with a solid plan that will help them define their highly anticipated program,” said Darrell Gillette, DZYNE President, and Chief Executive Officer. “We are confident this will result in long-term partnerships with both NASA and other firms, who will help us bring an exciting airplane to life.”Throughout its contract with NASA, the DZYNE team defined a program plan that included technical maturation plans for enabling technologies critical to the DZYNE BWB. Overall goals for the anticipated NASA Subsonic X-Plane program are the significant reduction of fuel burn, emissions, and community noise for the future commercial transport fleet. The DZYNE BWB is expected to be 40-50% more fuel efficient than today’s airliners.
“We are introducing BWB technology to the largest segment of the airliner market, the single-aisle segment, previously thought inaccessible to BWBs,” Gillette said. “What will ultimately be a game changer for the U.S. aviation industry, DZYNE is applying the BWB to the Super‑Regional segment.” DZYNE outlined a strategy to maintain the strength of the U.S. aerospace manufacturing industry amidst growing strong foreign competition.
“This airplane will show key technologies working in unison. A manned BWB demonstration would not only secure America’s role as the leader in airliner technology but also prove technology readiness to the airlines. This is a necessary step before product launch. We believe an experimental program would be the capstone event needed to propel BWB technology to the airline market. Market adoption is necessary to achieve the community benefits envisioned by NASA including U.S. job growth.” said Mark Page, DZYNE Vice President, and Chief Scientist.
