Position Description

The Project Accountant documents the requirements of a project throughout its lifecycle. He or she helps the entire project team complete the project within its planned scope, schedule and budget, while serving as a liaison for the project's technical, functional and non-functional teams, coordinates client interaction between the project team and client, provides guidance on recommended manpower and technical resource loading. The Project Accountant also tracks the financial progress and estimates of the project and ensures that submitted information is in compliance with company accounting standards and any government requirements (Caltrans, Prevailing Wage, FAR, etc.).


The successful candidate MUST have a strong Design discipline background along with experience in projects in the Defense Contracting Industry. Specific demonstrated experience in leading successful rapid design/development is strongly preferred.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and track project financials, deliverables, artifacts, meeting minutes and plans

  • Assist in the creation of Work Breakdown Structures (WBS)

  • Implement and execute proper controls to proactively support, monitor and communicate budget, actual status and forecast costs and labor hours for projects. Develop and issue timely reports.

  • Assist in the preparation of cost proposals

  • Review contract documents for financial details to set up new projects

  • Review and edit documentation such as deliverables and artifacts

  • Provide support to the Project Management group including cost analysis

  • Developing documentation utilizing Word and Excel

  • Proofing, editing and formatting all communications to ensure a uniform and clear standard for all documents

  • Capturing key project elements and keeping concise and clear records

  • Attending regular meetings with project leadership and team members

  • Setup and coordinate meetings

  • Documenting and distributing meeting minutes and action items

  • Assist with SharePoint administration

  • Assisting with recognizing, monitoring, and providing potential solutions for risks/issues

    • Support proposal review; risk assessment/management; terms, conditions, licensing, and pricing negotiation; and conflict resolution

    • Analyze and resolve corporate business risk areas and mitigate issues

    • Provide detailed, accurate analysis of contract terms and conditions

    • Provide support to and work within a team of technical and administrative professionals, providing guidance on contracts obligations

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Three (3) years of relevant work experience creating contract documents (PMRs, EVM, RFPs, RFQs, contracts, etc.) for projects, equipment, supplies, and professional services

  • Minimum of 3+ years of industry experience as an accountant overseeing project execution - in the design/development program lifecycle phase - while ensuring that projects meet client schedule and budget objective

  • Positive, “can-do” attitude and talent/experience leading people and cultivating a healthy customer relationship

  • Expert working knowledge of Excel and SQL interface

  • Must have Aerospace or Defense Contractor industry experience

  • Proven ability, capacity, and aptitude with planning, organizing, supervising, coordinating technical work, and obtaining cooperation from others (must be able to build rapport with project staff)

  • High level of scheduling skills

  • Skilled in the use of IT tools, including spreadsheets, word processing, planning, and scheduling software.

  • Assist in preparing bids and proposal spread sheets

  • Knowledge of Far/DFAR and ITAR export regulations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expert knowledge of the entire Microsoft Office Professional Suite to include Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
